New AroCell TK 210 ELISA Kit
06/11/2017
We are delighted to annouce our new partnership with AroCell AB to distribute their TK 210 ELISA assay in the UK and Ireland.
AroCell AB is based in Sweden and develops tests that can be used in the prognosis, monitoring and follow-up of cancer.
Oncologists need to monitor tumour growth during cancer treatment and early detection of progressive tumour disease is important for clinical management. AroCell has developed an assay, the TK 210 ELISA for measuring the enzyme Thymidine Kinase 1 (TK1) to meet the need for a reliable biomarker for treatment response, in both research and in clinical application.
Thymidine Kinase 1 (TK1) is a protein that is elevated in the blood when there is increased cell turnover (cell growth and cell death) within the patient. A malignant tumour has high cell turnover and results in TK1 being released into the blood so testing for TK1 is therefore of great potential clinical value.
The measurement of TK1 enzyme activity has been used for many years for prognosis and monitoring of the treatment of haematological malignancies, but recent studies have demonstrated that a large fraction of the TK1 protein in patients with solid tumour disease is inactive.
As an immunoassay, the AroCell TK 210 ELISA kit measures the total mass of TK1, whether the protein is active or not. This increases the value of TK1 in studying samples from patients with solid tumours and opens new research opportunities for making prognoses and monitoring the effects of therapy.
AroCell’s unique and patented new ELISA kit is the only available CE marked immunoassay for total TK1 mass that offers a step towards individualised cancer therapy by measuring what really matters.
The AroCell TK 210 ELISA is convenient and easy to use as it is based on a standard technology platform already extensively used in clinical laboratories. As a blood test it also saves time and reduces costs compared to biopsy and is convenient for the patient.
